Mount Women's Tennis Opens Spring Season at Lehigh on Sunday

MOUNT UPDATE: Competing for the first time this spring, the Mount heads to Bethlehem, Pa. to take on Lehigh on Sunday morning. The Mount went 3-1 in the fall with wins over Shepherd, Monmouth and Rider. Freshman Cassandra Powell, the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Month for October, led the Mount with six singles victories in the fall.

ABOUT LEHIGH: The Mountain Hawks are 3-3 so far this spring and are coming off a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Stony Brook on Feb. 15. Briana Maravich and Kirstin Godau have both picked up four singles victories to lead Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks have gone 2-0 versus teams from the Northeast Conference this season with wins over Saint Francis U and FDU.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. LEHIGH: The Mount carries a 6-7 record versus Lehigh at the Division I level into Sunday's match. The two sides have squared off in each of the previous five seasons. Lehigh has won three in a row over the Mount, including a 7-0 decision last spring.

NEC PRESEASON POLL: The Mount was selected sixth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, ahead of Wagner and St. Francis Brooklyn. Three-time defending Northeast Conference champion Fairleigh Dickinson topped the poll with five first-place votes, followed by LIU Brooklyn in second with two top votes. Bryant, which picked up the other top vote, checked in at third, with Sacred Heart and Saint Francis U to follow.

UP NEXT: The Mount travels to Florida to take on Presbyterian, Augustana, Bethune-Cookman, Saint Benedict and Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras from March 1-6.
