Mount St. Mary's Surges Past Bucknell, 81-73

Emmitsburg, Md. (December 8, 2015)--Mount St. Mary's University used a dominating second half to rally past Bucknell, 81-73, before a boisterous crowd at Knott Arena on Tuesday night.  Sophomore Junior Robinson (Mebane, N.C.) made the key plays down the stretch to pace the Mountaineers to the win.

Trailing 44-30 at the intermission, the Mount (3-6) outscored Bucknell, 51-29, in the second half to surge to the victory.  Mount St. Mary's rattled on an 11-0 run to open the half to get back into the game.  After a Khalid Nwandu (York, Pa.) steal and lay-up, Gregory Graves (Sterling, Va.) added a thunderous dunk off a pass from Robinson to make it 44-34.  BK Ashe (Washington, D.C.) then scored five consecutive points with Taylor Danaher (Fredericksburg, Va.) capping the run with a pair of free throws to make it 44-41 with 15:49 remaining.

The Bison (3-6) were able to maintain their lead, holding a 61-55 advantage with 9:13 remaining.  The Mount, however, used an 8-to-2 run to grab its first lead of the game, 65-63, on a Will Miller (Dallas, Texas) three-pointer with 6:20 on the clock.

Bucknell was able to answer, taking a 69-67 advantage on a Nana Foulland bucket in the paint with 5:00 left in the game.  The Mount's Chris Wray (Shelby, N.C.) countered with the next four points to give the Mount the lead at 71-69.

Wray scored on drive to the bucket to tie the game, and then hammered home an alley-oop pass from Robinson to give the Mountaineers a two-point advantage with 4:18 remaining.

From there, Robinson made all the plays down the stretch to salt the game away.  Robinson hit a pair of free throws with 3:32 left to make it 73-69, and after a Bucknell turnover, his jumper with 2:55 remaining gave the Mount a six-point advantage.

With the Mount holding a 77-73 lead, Robinson drove to the bucket and scored to give the Mount a 79-73 advantage.  He closed out the win with a pair of free throws with 25 seconds on the clock.

Robinson finished the day with 19 points while dishing out a career-high nine assists.  Ashe added 14 points with Charles Glover (Bowie, Md.) adding 10 points and six rebounds off the bench.  The balanced scoring attack saw Danaher and Miller add nine points each, Graves seven points, and Nwandu six points and five assists.

Kimbal Mackenzie led the Bison with 13 points while Foulland chipped in 12 points and six rebounds.

The Mount shot 63.0 percent (17-of-27) from the field in the second half to finish the game at 49.1 percent.  The Mount also forced Bucknell into 19 turnovers.

Bucknell carried play in the first half, jumping to a 21-to-8 lead in the opening eight minutes.  The Bison were able to stretch the margin to 44-30 at the half.

The Mountaineers are back in action on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. matchup at UMBC.

Game Notes:  The Mount went 3-0 on its three-game homestand to improve to 32-9 all-time at Knott Arena under head coach Jamion Christian...The Mount is now 9-1 over its past 10 games with Patriot League opponents...The Mount is now 11-12 all-time against Bucknell, but has won the past three meetings between the teams.
