Mount St. Mary's Men's Basketball Opens Northeast Conference Play at Home vs. LIU Brooklyn on Saturday

The Mount St. Mary's University men's basketball team kicks off Northeast Conference play with a four-game homestand beginning on Saturday, January 2nd, against LIU Brooklyn at 2:00 p.m. at Knott Arena.

FIRST FIVE
1.  The Mount closed out the non-conference schedule with a 62-53 loss at Binghamton on Tuesday night.  BK Ashe led the Mountaineers with 10 points in the loss.  Trailing 42-33, the Mount closed the deficit to 42-40 with just over seven minutes remaining.  The Bearcats were able to hold off the rally to secure the win.  Junior Robinson and Khalid Nwandu each added eight points in the loss.

2.  The Mountaineers begin a four-game homestand against LIU Brooklyn.  The Mount is 3-0 at home this season, and is 32-9 at home under head coach Jamion Christian.  In the three home games this season, the Mount is averaging 82.3 points, compared to 60.5 points per game on the road.

3. The matchup with LIU Brooklyn begins the Mount's 27th season in the Northeast Conference.  The Mountaineers are 10-16 all-time in NEC openers.  The Mount has lost its past four NEC opening games, including a 70-45 loss at Robert Morris last season.  The Mount is 1-6 in its past seven NEC openers, and haven't won an NEC opener at home since a 73-55 win over LIU Brooklyn on Dec. 6, 2007.

4.  The Mount has had balanced scoring with five players averaging 8.8 points or more over the past nine games.  BK Ashe leads the way at 15.9 ppg over that stretch, followed by Gregory Graves (9.9), Junior Robinson (9.9), Taylor Danaher (8.8) and Charles Glover (8.8).

5.  Up next, the Mountaineers host St. Francis Brooklyn on Monday, January 4, at 7:00 p.m. at Knott Arena.
