Box Score Elon, N.C. (November 27, 2015)—Mount St. Mary's rallied from a 17-point second half deficit to take the lead, but could not hold on in a 69-60 loss to Furman on Friday afternoon at the Battle 4 Atlantis mainland regional hosted by Elon University.
BK Ashe (Washington, D.C.) and Gregory Graves (Sterling, Va.) each scored 11 points for the Mount while Taylor Danaher (Fredericksburg, Va.) and Junior Robinson (Mebane, N.C.) added 10 each in the game. Robinson dished out a game-high six assists as well.
Trailing 44-27 early in the second half, the Mount went on an impressive 28-to-7 run to grab a 55-51 lead with 5:41 remaining. The Mount started the run with nine unanswered points to make it an eight-point game. Robinson started the run with a basket, Chris Wray (Shelby, N.C.) added back-to-back buckets, and Danaher ended the run with a traditional three-point play. After a Furman basket, the Mount scored the next seven points to even the score at 46-46 with the run capped by a Charles Glover (Bowie, Md.) lay-up.
The Mountaineers took their first lead of the game at 51-50 on an Ashe three-point basket with 7:21 left, and stretched the margin to 55-51 with 5:41 on the clock on a Robinson three-pointer. Furman answered with the next five points to take a 56-55 advantage.
Wray hit 1-of-2 at the line to even the score at 56-56 with 3:50 left, but Furman was able to stretch the lead to 64-56 on the strength of eight free throws over the next two minutes to earn the win.
The Mountaineers shot 48.3 percent from the field in the second half while forcing Furman into 19 turnovers in the game.
The Mount is back in action on Tuesday, December 1st, when American visits Knott Arena for the home opener. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
