The Mount St. Mary's men's basketball team opens the 2015-16 season with a home exhibition game against Hood College at 7:00 p.m. at Knott Arena on Tuesday night. Admission to the game is free while fans can donate to Relay for Life at the game.
NEWS AND NOTES:
* Mount St. Mary's opens the 2015-16 season with a pair of home exhibition games beginning against Hood on Tuesday, November 3. The exhibition games are the first by a Mountaineer team since hosting Team Champion in 2004. This will be the first-ever meeting between the Mount and Hood College.
* Mount St. Mary's was tabbed as the preseason favorite in the annual Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. The Mount garnered six first-place votes en route to the top spot. Mount St. Mary's has been picked first in the NEC Preseason Coaches Poll on four other occasions, the last coming prior to the 2009-10 season. The only time the Mount was picked first by the coaches and won the NEC Tournament was in 1998-99.
* Senior forward Gregory Graves and junior guard BK Ashe were named Preseason All-Northeast Conference by the league's coaches. Both Ashe and Graves were Third Team All-NEC selections last season. The remainder of the Preseason All-NEC team includes Cane Broome (Sacred Heart), Dan Garvin (Bryant) and Rodney Pryor (Robert Morris).
* The Mountaineers face a tough schedule in the month of November, beginning with a trip to No. 3 Maryland to open the season on Friday, November 13. The Mount will also play at Ohio State (Nov. 15), at Washington (Nov. 19), at No. 9 Gonzaga (Nov. 21), at Elon (Nov. 26) and vs. either Texas A&M-Corpus Christi or Furman (Nov. 27).
* Up next, the Mountaineers host Randolph-Macon for the second home exhibition game of the season. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, at Knott Arena.
