Mount St. Mary's Falls to No. 3 Maryland in Season Opener

College Park, Md. (November 13, 2015)--The Mount St. Mary's University men's basketball team opened the 2015-16 season with an 80-56 loss at No. 3 Maryland on Friday night.  Junior BK Ashe (Washington, D.C.) paced the Mountaineers with 18 points and seven rebounds in the game.

Trailing by 18 in the first half, the Mount (0-1) caught fire from three-point range, whittling the deficit to 38-32 with 1:15 left.  Ashe hit three three-pointers during the 18-to-6 run that was capped by a Charles Glover (Bowie, Md.) three-point basket.  Maryland (1-0) was able to close the half with the next five points for a 43-32 lead at the break.

The Mount shot 7-of-19 (.368) from three-point range in the opening half while also forcing eight Maryland turnovers.

Another Ashe three-pointer early in the second half cut the Maryland lead to 49-40, but the Terrapins responded with a 7-0 run to take control of the game. 

Ashe hit 4-of-10 from beyond the arc en route to his 18-point night while also matching a career-high with seven rebounds.  Will Miller (Dallas, Texas) chipped in 10 points, going 3-for-8 from three-point range with Gregory Graves (Sterling, Va.) chipping in nine points and five boards.

Jake Layman led five Maryland players in double figures with 16 points.  Maryland shot 58.9 percent in the game while the Mount shot 31.1 percent.

The Mountaineers returns to action on Sunday, November 15, with a noon matchup at Ohio State.  The game will air live on ESPNU.
