Mount St. Mary's University opens the 2015-16 men's basketball season with a Friday night matchup at No. 3 Maryland.

FIRST FIVE

1.  Mount St. Mary's defeated Randolph-Macon, 79-63, at Knott Arena on Saturday in their second home exhibition game.  Junior Robinson and BK Ashe combined for 43 points to lead the Mountaineers to the victory.  Robinson led the Mount with 22 points while Ashe added 21.  The Mount shot 57.1 percent from the field in the win, including 6-of-15 (.400) from three-point range.

2.  Mount St. Mary's was tabbed as the preseason favorite in the annual Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.  The Mount garnered six first-place votes en route to the top spot.  Mount St. Mary's has been picked first in the NEC Preseason Coaches Poll on four other occasions, the last coming prior to the 2009-10 season.  The only time the Mount was picked first by the coaches and won the NEC Tournament was in 1998-99.

3.  Maryland holds a 7-0 lead in the all-time series with the Mountaineers that began in 1987.  The Mount hosted the Terrapins in the first-ever meeting between the schools on December 8, 1987.  Maryland held on to beat the Mountaineers, 77-74, in the last meeting between the two teams on Dec. 7, 2011.

4.  Entering its 107th season of men's basketball, the Mount has posted a 57-49 all-time record in season-opening games, going 41-10 at home, 11-35 on the road, and 5-3 on a neutral court.  This is the third time the Mount will open its season at Maryland.  The Mount opened the 1991-92 season with an 83-53 loss to Maryland, and fell to the Terrapins, 102-74, to open the 1997-98 season.

5.  Up next, the Mountaineers have a quick turnaround, heading to Ohio State on Sunday for a noon matchup.  The game will air live on ESPNU.
