Shepherdstown, W. Va. (September 24, 2014) – The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team put on a dominating performance in a 9-0 win on the road at Shepherd in the first dual match of the season on Wednesday. The Mount (1-0) cruised to victories in the three doubles matches before taking the six singles matches from the Rams (0-5).

Early on in doubles play, Jennifer and Kelly Smith earned their third win of the season, taking down Katelyn Mumaw and Molly Lovern by an 8-2 margin at the No. 1 slot. The all-freshmen duo of Sruthi Kamprath and Cassandra Powell made quick work of Alice D'Alauro and Jill Spuria with an 8-0 No. 2 doubles victory.

The Mount's No. 3 doubles pairing of Erin Benefiel and Danielle Nguyen improved to 2-3 on the season thanks to a convincing 8-1 win over Chloe Raines and Stacy Brewbaker.

The Mountaineers continued to play well in singles action with straight-set wins in all six matches. Playing No. 1 singles for the first time in her collegiate career, Benefiel came away a 6-4, 6-4 victor against Mumaw. At the No. 2 slot, Kelly Smith downed Lovern, 6-1, 6-0, while Kamprath (No. 3) and Powell (No. 4) played their way to identical 6-0, 6-0 wins.

At the final two slots, Nguyen picked up a 6-1, 6-2 No. 5 singles victory, and Jennifer Smith was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 6.

Next on the schedule, the Mount hosts the Mount St. Mary's Invitational Oct. 3-5 at the Mount Tennis Courts.

NOTES: The Mount improves to 13-0 in the all-time series versus Shepherd… The Mount is 19-8 in first dual matches of the season at the Division I level.
