Baltimore, Md. (April 9, 2014) – The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team lost to Loyola, 7-0, in a road match at the Butler Courts on Wednesday.
The Mountaineers (8-10) were overpowered by a tough Loyola (8-4) squad that won all three matches in doubles play and went on to sweep singles action as well.
At the No. 1 doubles slot, Kelly and Jennifer Smith stayed with Loyola's Megan Hahn and Olivia Ott until the end in an 8-7 (8-6) loss. The Greyhounds were also victorious at No. 2 and 3 doubles to earn the point.
In singles action on the afternoon, Loyola continued its hot play with six wins, including four in straight sets. Senior Liz Rossi won the first set of her No. 2 match before Haleigh Morgus picked up wins the rest of the way. At No. 5, freshman Erin Benefiel was a 6-2 winner in the opening set, but Ott pulled away with wins in the second and third sets.
The Mount looks to recover with the squad's final home match of the season at the Mount Tennis Courts tomorrow versus Howard at 3 p.m.
