Fairfax, Va. (April 6, 2014) – The Mount women's tennis team could not get by George Mason on Sunday, falling by a 6-1 score on the road. Senior Liz Rossi won her match at No. 2 singles and was part of the Mount's winning combination at No. 2 doubles.
Rossi, who has won four of her last five singles matches, moved into a three-way tie for first on the team with 11 singles wins on the season. Playing No. 2 doubles on the day with Samantha Pinchoff, the senior duo defeated Mina Saygi and Esn Erdenebat, 8-6. The Mount (8-9) could not win the doubles point however, as the Patriots (7-12) were victorious at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Rossi played the only three set match of the day at No. 2 singles. The senior was a 6-4 winner in the first set versus Morgan Yang to gain an early advantage. After Yang took set two, 6-2, Rossi was able to recover with a 10-8 win in the third set. George Mason picked up wins in straight sets in the other five singles matches on Sunday.
Next on the schedule, the Mount plays at Loyola on Wednesday, April 9, at 3:15 p.m. before hosting Howard the following day at 3 p.m.
