Mount Women's Tennis Tops Saint Peter's, 6-1, in Regular Season Finale

Jersey City, N.J. (April 13, 2014) -- In the final tune up before the upcoming Northeast Conference Tournament, the Mount women's tennis team capped the regular season on a high note with a 6-1 road win at Saint Peter's on Sunday.

Facing a short-handed Peacocks squad, the Mount (9-12) began the day by winning the doubles point en route to snapping a four-match losing streak. With the No. 3 slot going to the Mount by default, the team's No. 2 victory by Samantha Pinchoff and Liz Rossi by a final score of 8-1 secured the point for the Mountaineers. Saint Peter's (4-12) won at No. 1 doubles.

In singles play, the Mountaineers took No. 5 and 6 by default and played their way to wins at No. 2-4 to cruise to the win.

Rossi downed Ivana Grbelja in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 2 slot, while Taylor D'Agostino was also a straight set winner at No. 4. Squaring off with Vanessa Vogel, D'Agostino won by scores of 6-3 and 6-0.

Playing at the No. 3 position, Kelly Smith fell behind by losing the first set, 7-5, to Elena Melian. Bouncing back in the final two sets, Smith won in the second set, 6-3, and took the third, 10-6.

The Mount is set to compete in the NEC Tournament scheduled for April 17-19 in West Windsor, N.J.
