Mount Women's Tennis Wraps up Regular Season with Pair of Road Matches

MOUNT UPDATE: In the final tests before the upcoming NEC Tournament, the Mount squares off with Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday and Saint Peter's on Sunday. Two wins would help the Mount reach 10 wins for the ninth time in the last 10 years and snap the team's current three-match losing streak. A trio of players, Erin Benefiel, Liz Rossi and Kelly Smith, are tied for the team lead with 11 singles wins apiece. 

LAST TIME OUT: Playing on the home courts for the last time, the Mount lost to Howard by a final count of 7-0 on April 10. Howard took the three doubles matches then went on to sweep the singles action as well.

ABOUT FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON: FDU has won three in a row with victories over LIU Brooklyn, Bryant and UMass. Five of the six players on the FDU roster have won 15 or more matches, highlighted by Gisela Castany's 22-5 record. The Knights, which have not lost a Northeast Conference match since the 2011-12 season, were selected as the preseason favorite in the league.

ABOUT SAINT PETER'S: With a 4-10 record, all four of the wins for Saint Peter's have been at home this season. A 6-1 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn on April 6 snapped a four-match losing streak for the Peacocks.

ALL-TIME RECORD VS. WEEKEND OPPONENTS: After losing four in a row to FDU to begin the series, the Mount has gotten the better of the Knights in the last two, picking up wins in 2006 and 2007. The Mount has not lost to FDU since 2003 in the NEC Tournament. The Mount has never faced Saint Peter's.

PERFECT IN THE NEC: Senior captain Samantha Pinchoff is a perfect 3-0 in NEC play in No. 1 singles action. Entering the weekend, Pinchoff has compiled 39 career singles victories.

NEC PRESEASON POLL: In the annual NEC Preseason Coaches Poll, the Mountaineers were selected to finish fifth in the nine-team conference. FDU was selected to win the league for the third-consecutive season with eight first-place votes, followed by LIU Brooklyn with the other top vote. Bryant and Sacred Heart tied for third in the poll. Mount St. Mary's was followed in the poll by Saint Francis U, Robert Morris, Wagner and St. Francis Brooklyn.

UP NEXT: The Mount is set to compete in the Northeast Conference Tournament in West Windsor, N.J. on April 17-19.
