Emmitsburg, Md. (March 27, 2014) – The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team ran into a tough Bucknell side on Thursday afternoon at the Mount Tennis Courts and was dealt a 6-1 loss in non-conference action.
The Mountaineers (7-8) were overpowered on the day by Bucknell (3-4), which has now won three of its last four matches. The Bison took all three doubles matches and added wins in five out of the six singles matches.
Senior captain Samantha Pinchoff picked up the Mount's lone victory of the day while playing No. 1 singles. Battling Bucknell's Elena Vidrascu, Pinchoff gained control with a 6-2 win in the first set. When Vidrascu bounced back with a second-set victory, Pinchoff answered with a 6-4 win in the final set to take the match.
Kelly Smith also kept her No. 3 singles match close, falling in three sets to Lydia Colvin on the day. Smith lost the first set and forced a third with a 6-4 win in the second set.
Up next, the Mount travels south to Fairfax, Va. for a 12 p.m. match versus George Mason on Sunday, March 30.
