Orlando, Fla. (February 28, 2014) – Mount St. Mary's was dealt a 6-1 defeat by Davenport in women's tennis action on Friday as the Mountaineers concluded their spring break trip with a 2-3 record.
The Mount (5-5) won the doubles point for a 1-0 lead, but Davenport (6-4) took all six singles matches to earn the victory.
The No. 2 doubles team of Samantha Pinchoff and Liz Rossi improved their record as a tandem to 5-3 on the season with an 8-4 win on Friday. The Mount was also victorious at No. 3 doubles where Erin Benefiel and Taylor D'Agostino were 8-6 winners.
The Mount put up a fight at No. 1 and No. 2 singles with Pinchoff falling to Alyssa Fuentes, 7-5, 7-6 (7-1) at No. 1 and Rossi losing to Emily Spiech at the No. 2 slot by scores of 0-6, 6-3, 6-3. The Panthers were straight-set winners at No. 3-6 singles.
The Mount begins Northeast Conference play with a home match versus Saint Francis U on March 15 at noon.
