Mount Women's Tennis Set for Five Matches in Six Days in Florida

MOUNT UPDATE: The Mountaineers returned from the long layoff following the fall season with a 7-0 loss at Lehigh to begin the spring. In Florida, the Mount takes on five different opponents in a six-day stretch. Sitting at 3-2 overall on the 2013-14 season, Taylor D'Agostino and Kelly Smith lead the Mountaineers with six singles victories apiece. 

LAST TIME OUT: The Mount lost to Lehigh, 7-0, on Feb. 16 in the first action of the spring season. At No. 2 doubles, Liz Rossi and Samantha Pinchoff kept their match close before falling, 8-6. 

ABOUT WEBBER INTERNATIONAL: The Warriors are 0-2 in the spring with losses to Warner and Southeastern. Competing at the NAIA level, the Mount is the only Division I school on Webber International's schedule this spring.

ABOUT OAKLAND: Oakland is off to a 0-5 start to the spring, most recently falling to Michigan State, 7-0, on Feb. 8. The Grizzlies went 5-13 a year ago with a 3-4 record in Horizon League action. Elizabeth Guy, who plays No. 6 singles for Oakland, has a team-best six singles wins.

ABOUT BETHUNE-COOKMAN: Reigning MEAC Player of the Week Mina Matsuba and her Wildcats are 2-6 on the season. The No. 1 singles player, Matsuba is 6-2 on the year with straight-set wins over players from UCF, Florida Atlantic and Iowa State, among others.

ABOUT CONCORDIA MOORHEAD: The 0-3 Cobbers have won two singles matches in three duals this spring.

ABOUT DAVENPORT: Ranked No. 24 in the NAIA rankings, the Panthers are 3-3 on the season, including a win last time out versus Ferris State. Splitting time between No. 2 and 3 singles, Puck Luttikuis leads Davenport with 10 singles wins this season.  

SERIES VS. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS: The Mount holds a 5-3 all-time record versus this week's opponents. The Mount is 2-3 versus Bethune-Cookman and undefeated against Concordia Moorhead (1-0) and Davenport (2-0). It will be the Mount's first-ever meetings with Webber International and Oakland. 

UP NEXT: The Mount jumps into Northeast Conference play with home matches against Saint Francis U on March 15, followed by a March 16 match versus Robert Morris.
