Mount Women's Tennis Kicks Off Spring at Lehigh on Sunday

MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount women's tennis team returns to action for the first time since mid-October with a dual match at Lehigh on Sunday. Four different players won five or more singles matches in the fall, highlighted by a team-high six victories from Kelly Smith and Taylor D'Agostino. Liz Rossi, who is the Mount's active leader with 36 career singles wins, is 5-6 on the year and 3-0 at No. 2 singles.

SPRING OPENERS: The Mount is 2-7 in opening matches of the spring season in Head Coach Phil Hammond's career. The team's last win in the first match of the spring was a 4-3 victory over Lehigh on Feb. 14, 2010.

ABOUT LEHIGH: After playing three tournaments in the fall, Lehigh is 1-3 in dual matches this spring. Losing to Drexel, Rutgers and Fairleigh Dickinson, the Mountain Hawks' lone win of the spring was against Saint Francis U on Feb. 2.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. LEHIGH: The Mount is 6-6 versus Lehigh dating back to the first meeting on the Division I level in the spring of 1989. In matches in Bethlehem, the Mount is 3-6 against the Mountain Hawks. Lehigh has won two in a row against the Mount with the Mountaineers' last victory in the series occurring in 2011.

LEADING THE WAY: Taylor D'Agostino and Kelly Smith led the Mount with six singles wins in the fall portion of the schedule. In doubles action Kelly Smith teamed up with her older sister, Jennifer Smith, for a team-best six wins, including three in dual matches.

UP NEXT: The Mountaineers travel to sunny Orlando, Fla. for five matches from Feb. 23 through Feb. 28.
