Mount Women's Soccer Closes Season at Central Connecticut State on Sunday

MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team closes the 2014 season on the road in New Britain, Conn. versus Central Connecticut State on Sunday, Nov. 2. Junior midfielder Emma Blair is tied for ninth in the Northeast Conference with four goals on the year. Senior Alicia Mirando and freshman Jordan Fine have also tallied two goals apiece for the Mountaineers.

LAST TIME OUT: Following a Senior Day celebration, the Mount was handed a 4-0 loss by Sacred Heart in the home finale on Oct. 26. SHU scored all four of its goals in the first half. Mount goalkeeper Vicky Cocozza made five saves on the afternoon.

ABOUT CCSU: The Blue Devils enter the weekend on a two-game winning streak, winners of five of their last six. Sitting in third place in the Northeast Conference, CCSU can clinch a berth in the NEC tournament with a win on Sunday. The Central Connecticut defense has shut out eight opponents on the year, while Tori Sousa leads the team with 15 points on five goals and five assists.

LAST TIME VS. THE BLUE DEVILS: The Mount lost by a 2-0 final score versus CCSU last fall at Waldron Family Stadium. After a scoreless first half, CCSU's Laura Gomez and Jewel Robinson netted goals in the 54th and 70th minutes, respectively. The Mount held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks with the Blue Devils taking 23 shots to the Mountaineers' 12.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. CCSU: Central Connecticut State has gotten the better of the play in the series with wins in 11 of the last 12 matchups. The Mount's overall record against the Blue Devils is 3-15-1 with the last win coming in 2011. In games in New Britain, Conn. the Mount holds a 1-8-0 mark, beating the Blue Devils, 2-1, in overtime in 2000.

THE SENIOR CLASS: Sunday's game will mark the final collegiate games for the Mount's senior class comprised of MacKenzie Buckwalter, Kristina Caravelli, Cara Deegan, Alicia Mirando and Paige Peck. The five have played in a combined 308 games and have scored a combined 15 goals.
