Emmitsburg, Md. (October 18, 2014) -- After winning the doubles point in Saturday's home match versus Monmouth, the Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team carried the momentum into singles play in a 6-1 win at the Mount Tennis Courts.
The Mountaineers (2-1) improved their all-time record versus Monmouth (1-6) to 17-3 with Saturday's victory.
In doubles play, freshmen Sruthi Kamprath and Cassandra Powell earned an 8-0 win over Ashley Sandler and Chioma Gabriel at the No. 2 slot, while senior Danielle Nguyen and sophomore Erin Benefiel picked up an 8-2 No. 3 doubles victory to give the Mount the point.
Sophomore Kelly Smith set the tone for the Mountaineers with a straight set, 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles versus Kendal Kauffman.
Kamprath and Powell continued their strong play in singles with Kamprath notching a three-set victory over Sandler at No. 3 and Powell putting together a straight-set, 6-1, 6-2 win against Gabriel at No. 4. At the No. 5 and 6 slots, Nguyen and Jennifer Smith had no problem in their respective matches with wins in straight sets.
The Mount will conclude the fall portion of its schedule tomorrow with a noon match versus Rider at the Mount Tennis Courts.
