Mount Women's Tennis Closes Fall with Two Home Matches

MOUNT UPDATE: Mount St. Mary's caps the fall portion of the 2014-15 women's tennis campaign with a pair of home matches versus Monmouth on Saturday, Oct. 18, and Rider on Sunday, Oct. 19. In singles action so far this fall, freshman Cassandra Powell has accounted for a team-high four victories and teamed with freshman Sruthi Kamprath for five doubles wins. The pairing of Erin Benefiel and Danielle Nguyen has also picked up five doubles victories on the year.

LAST TIME OUT:  The Mount jumped out to a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point versus Towson on Oct. 8, but was not able to hold on as the Tigers countered with wins in the six singles matches to hand the Mount a 6-1 loss. In doubles play, freshmen Sruthi Kamprath and Cassandra Powell notched a No. 2 win, while Erin Benefiel and Danielle Nguyen also added a doubles win at No. 3. The Mount's match versus La Salle scheduled for Oct. 11 was rained out.

ABOUT MONMOUTH: The Hawks are 1-5 on the year with the team's lone win coming against Rider, 5-2 on Oct. 7. Monmouth put together a 5-17 record last season, including a 1-8 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

LAST TIME VS. MONMOUTH: The last time the Mount faced Monmouth was the regular season finale of the 2012-13 season. Of the Mount's current players who appeared in the squad's 6-1 home victory, Taylor D'Agostino won her No. 6 singles match, while Jennifer Smith was victorious at No. 3 doubles alongside 2014 graduate Liz Rossi.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. MONMOUTH: In a mostly one-sided series, the Mount holds a 16-3 all-time lead over Monmouth dating back to 1998. The Mountaineers have notched 14-consecutive victories over the Hawks with Monmouth's last win coming in 2001.

ABOUT RIDER: Rider has stumbled out of the gate with a 0-5 record so far this fall, most recently dropping a 4-3 decision at home to Saint Peter's on Oct. 12. Alison Noll, Rider's No. 1 singles player, has been consistent throughout the fall with a 4-1 singles mark, including three wins in a row.

LAST SEASON VS. RIDER: The Mountaineers played their way to a 6-1 road win over Rider in last year's fall finale. Picking up the doubles point, the Mount won at No. 2 and 3 for a 1-0 advantage moving into singles action. The Mount continued to play well in singles with wins at No. 2-6 in straight sets. Liz Rossi (No. 2) Kelly Smith (No. 3), Taylor D'Agostino (No. 4), Jennifer Smith (No. 5) and Danielle Nguyen (No. 6) were responsible for the singles wins.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. RIDER: Squaring off for the fifth-consecutive season and eighth time overall, the Mount is a perfect 7-0 versus the Broncs. The Mount and Rider first squared off in 2005.
