Mount Women's Tennis Wraps Up Play at Tiger Classic

Towson, Md. (September 7, 2013) -- Mount St. Mary's concluded play at the Tiger Classic on Saturday with action against Towson and Delaware with scores not counting toward overall records. The Mount took one singles match from Towson to begin the day and competed hard against a tough Delaware squad.

Vs. Towson

Playing at the No. 4 singles slot, freshman Elizabeth Milano won in come-from-behind fashion against Towson's Cailey Easdale. Falling behind in the first set, 6-1, Milano squeaked out a 7-5 win in the second set. The freshman from Marietta, Ga. completed the comeback with a 10-8 win in the tiebreaker.

Two of the other singles matches also went to tiebreakers before Towson came away victorious. Senior Liz Rossi battled Nani Lizana to the end at No. 1 singles, winning the first set, 6-4. In the second set, however, Lizana claimed a 6-2 win and won the tiebreaker, 10-1.

At No. 3 singles, freshman Kelly Smith and her opponent, Belen Lizana, traded sets with identical 6-0 wins to force a decisive third set where Belen Lizana took a 10-4 win.

Vs. Delaware

Delaware proved to be a tough test for the young Mountaineers with the Blue Hens taking the doubles match as well as the four singles matches in the second match of the day.

Junior Danielle Nguyen played the closest singles match at No. 3, taking three points in a 6-3, 6-0 defeat at the hands of Delaware's Kimberly Milla.

Next on the schedule, the Mount will host the annual Mount St. Mary's Invitational at the Mount Tennis Courts Sept. 13-15.
