Emmitsburg, Md. (September 25, 2013) – Mount St. Mary's cruised to a 6-1 victory over Shepherd on Wednesday in the first dual of the 2013 fall season at the Mount Tennis Courts. The win helps the Mount improve its record to 12-0 against Shepherd in the all-time series.

The Mount (1-0) used the doubles point as well as five singles wins to pick up the victory over Shepherd (3-6).

The No. 1 doubles team for the Mount, comprised of Kelly Smith and Jennifer Smith, won its team-leading fourth match of the season by an 8-5 score over the Rams' top duo of Katlyn Mumaw and Jana Jones.

Samantha Pinchoff and Erin Benefiel played their way to an 8-1 win against Alica Dalauro and Stacy Brewbaker at No. 2 doubles. Playing together for the first time this season, Liz Rossi and Taylor D'Agostino adjusted quickly in an 8-0 No. 3 doubles win against Emily Johnson and Chloe Raines.

The Mount was dominant in singles action with all five wins coming in straight sets. Rossi at No. 2, D'Agostino at No. 4 and Benefiel at No. 5 singles did not drop a single game with impressive 6-0, 6-0 wins in their respective matches.

Playing No. 3 singles versus Dalauro, Kelly Smith was able to put together a 6-1, 6-1 win, while Danielle Nguyen added her third win in the fall with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Johnson at No. 6.

Benefiel, D'Agostino and Kelly Smith are all tied for the team lead with four singles victories apiece.

The Mount returns to action on Oct. 2 with a 3 p.m. dual at Towson.
