Emmitsburg, Md. (September 14, 2013) – Three doubles wins as well as seven victories in singles play highlighted the Mount women's tennis team's effort on day two of the Mount St. Mary's Invitational on Saturday. The Mount advanced players to the consolation finals for Flight A doubles and all five singles flights on the day.
Sisters Jennifer and Kelly Smith advanced to Sunday's consolation finals for Flight A doubles with an 8-3 victory against Shannon Lavery and Maddy Altholtz from Dickinson. Also moving on the Flight A doubles consolation finals, Samantha Pinchoff and Erin Benefiel scored an 8-5 win against Dickinson's Sydney Diamond and Melissa Parks.
In Flight B doubles, Liz Rossi and Elizabeth Milano cruised to an 8-0 win in the opening round against Dickinson's Claire Stoner and Joanna Nunes before falling to Bucknell's Steph Pino and Lydia Colvin, 8-6, in the semifinals.
Rossi and Pinchoff secured spots in the top singles flight consolation finals with wins on Saturday. Rossi fought for a 6-2, 3-6, 10-6 victory against Dickinson's Lavery, while Pinchoff was a straight-set winner, 6-1, 6-0 against Diamond.
Flight B and Flight C also saw the Mount qualify for the consolation finals with Kelly Smith (Flight B) and Benefiel (Flight C) picking up a straight-set win.
Sunday is set up to be an all Mount St. Mary's consolation finals for Flight D and E singles. Jennifer Smith and Taylor D'Agostino won their matches in straight-set fashion in Flight D. In Flight E, Kayla Barrett came away with a 6-4, 6-1 win to face teammate Isabella Draper in the consolation finals on Sunday.
The Invitational is set to conclude tomorrow with doubles play at 9:30 a.m. and singles play to follow.
