LAST TIME OUT: Last weekend, the Mount opened the season at the Tiger Classic hosted by Towson. The Mount faced George Mason and IUP on the first day before competing against Towson and Delaware. Individually, freshman Elizabeth Milano and junior Jennifer Smith won singles matches, while Milano and Erin Benefiel combined for a doubles victory in their Mount debuts.
AT LAST YEAR'S EVENT: The 2012 Mount St. Mary's Invitational concluded with a pair of championships for the Mount. Last year's field included Loyola (Md.), Bucknell, Morgan State and the Mount.
WELCOME BACK: Half of the team's starters for singles are back with another year of experience. Samantha Pinchoff, the Mount's No. 2 singles player from last season, is back for her senior season after winning 10 singles matches in 2012-13. Four freshmen including Kelly Smith from Davenport, Wash., Elizabeth Milano from Marietta, Ga., Erin Benefiel from Lake Mary, Fla. and Kayla Barrett from Orange, Conn. made their collegiate debuts at the Tiger Classic.
COACHING STAFF: Head Coach Phil Hammond is entering his 10th season at the helm for the Mount. On the women's side, Hammond's coaching record is 117-83, while putting together an 88-103 mark with the men's team.
UP NEXT: Next weekend, the Mount will compete in the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa. The three-day competition will begin on Friday, Sept. 20, and run through Sunday, Sept. 22.
