Daytona Beach, Fla. (May 4, 2013) -- Following Friday's rainout, the Mount men's golf team completed 36 holes of action at the NEC Tournament on Saturday with a team total of 643 strokes to place ninth with one round to play. Freshman Eric Flockhart is tied for 11th with a score of 149.
Through the first 18 holes, Flockhart was tied for fifth overall among the 55 competitors with a score of 71 (-1). Flockhart's 71, which is tied for the third best in program history for the NEC Tournament, was aided by five birdies. The freshman from Ontario, Canada picked up birdies on the par-4 first, par-3 third and seventh holes and on the par-5 14th.
It is the second-lowest total of the season for Flockhart and one shot off his career-best 70 (-2) from the second round of the Mount St. Mary's Invitational. He followed up his 71 with a round two 78 (+6) for a 149 score.
Senior Andrew Lawton fired an opening round 77 (+5) then carded an 80 (+8) in the second round to bring his total to 157. Lawton's day was highlighted by birdying the par-4 sixth hole in the first round and a birdie on the par-5 16th in the second 18 holes. Lawton is tied for 31st with 18 holes to play.
After a first round score of 86 (+14), freshman Mike Shine cut seven strokes off his second round score with a 79 (+7) for a two-round total of 165 for a tie for 42nd. Shine secured one birdie in the first round and four in round two.
With four birdies on the front nine, freshman Michael Pansini finished the first round with a score of 82 (+10) then followed up with a 90 (+18). Pansini's performance earned him 50th overall on day one.
In the fifth slot, Zach O'Grady fired three birdies in round one and has a two-round score of 179.
Monmouth's Brady Goodling led the field with an opening round 68 (-4) and is in seventh after two rounds. At the conclusion of Saturday's play, LIU Brooklyn's Josh Water is first overall with back-to-back rounds of 71 (-1) for a 142 total. Kevin Fawcett of Saint Francis U is second with 143 strokes.
LIU Brooklyn checked in with a three-stroke lead at 593, sitting ahead of Fairleigh Dickinson (596), Robert Morris (597), Saint Francis U (598) and Central Connecticut State (599).
