Box Score Lubbock, Texas (December 30, 2013)—Mount St. Mary's lost at Texas Tech, 100-69, on Monday night at United Spirit Arena. Senior Julian Norfleet paced the Mountaineers with a team-high 16 points.
Texas Tech (8-5) took a 45-20 lead at the half to earn the win.
Freshman Khalid Nwandu scored a career-high 15 points for the Mountaineers while Rashad Whack chipped in 11. Aaron Brown added a career-high eight points off the bench.
Six Texas Tech players reached double figures, led by Dejan Kravic and Jaye Crockett, who each had 14.
The Red Raiders shot 63.3 percent in the contest, including 6-of-13 (.462) from three-point range. The Mount shot 39.3 percent overall and was 8-for-26 (.308) from beyond the arc.
Buckets from Nwandu, Taylor Danaher and a Norfleet free throw put the Mount (3-9) ahead, 5-4, in the early going.
The Red Raiders answered with an 11-0 run to take a 15-5 lead at the first media timeout. Texas Tech continued the surge, pushing the lead to 33-12 with just under eight minutes left.
Texas Tech was able to stretch the advantage to 45-20 at the half. The Mount struggled from the field in the opening half, shooting just 8-of-31 (.258) overall and 1-of-13 (.077) from three-point range.
The Red Raiders shot 60.0 percent in the first half, and held a 25-to-13 advantage on the boards.
Mount St. Mary's is next in action when it closes out the non-conference schedule on Friday, January 3, with a 7:00 p.m. game at Norfolk State.
