EMMITSBURG, Md. – Sophomore Tony Aizpun (Barcelona, Spain/Lycee Francais De Barcalone) finished 11th after two rounds to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to a sixth-place standing after two rounds at the Turning Stone Intercollegiate on Sunday. The event is the Mount's season opener.
Aizpun posted an even round of 72 in the first round and then notched a two under round of 70 to finish the 36 holes in day one of the competition in 11th place, five strokes behind the current leader.
Kevin Ellison (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) (31st place, 148), Dan Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (40th place, 150), Ryan Triller (Street, Md./North Harford) (40th place, 150) and Andrew Lawton (Severna Park, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (58th place, 155) rounded out the Mount's five competitors. Triller is making his collegiate debut in the event.
Baylor leads the three-round two-day event with a score of 563, three strokes ahead of Purdue (566) while Missouri (567), Bowling Green (571) and TCU (572) rounded out the Top-5 teams in the 14-team field. The Mountaineers sit just outside the Top-5 in sixth place after shooting a 300 in the first round and a 290 in the second round for a two-round total of 590.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Monday in the final round of the Turning Stone Intercollegiate. Tee time is 7:30 a.m.
