Fairleigh Dickinson Downs Men's Soccer, 2-0

TEANECK, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson defeated Mount St. Mary's 2-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) men's soccer action on Friday.

Peter Steve (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) made six saves for the Mount (4-5-1, 1-2-0 NEC) while Zoncher Dennis (Swarthmore, Md./Strath Haven) had a team-high three shots in the loss.

Jack McVey and Michael Caldron each found the twine for the Knights (7-2-1, 3-0-0 NEC) and Jacob Lissek turned away three shots in the winning effort.

Fairleigh Dickinson scored a goal in each half and never looked back to end a two-game losing streak against Mount St. Mary's. Prior to the match, the Mount had won four of the last six meetings in the series.

McVey got the scoring started when he converted a penalty kick at 5:40 to give the Knights an early 1-0 edge after the Mountaineers were called for a handball in the box. Calderon sealed the win when he got the ball from 35-yards out and dribbled through the Mount defense and found the twine from 12-yards out at 85:35.

Mount St. Mary's had several chances to score, but could not convert. Chris Wheeler (Newcastle, Australia/St. Francis Xavier) had his shot blocked at 14:08 before Lissek made the stop on a Wheeler header at 28:45. Ian Hendrie (Potomac, Md./St. Andrews Episcopal School) had the Mountaineers last chance in the first frame, but Lissek was there to make the save at 42:29.

In the second half, Jimmy Ockford (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) had a scoring opportunity stopped by the Knights' netminder at 56:02. Dennis had his shot blocked by the defense at 66:39. Alex Ockford (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) hit the cross bar at 87:52 before Kyle Patrick (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) gave Mount St. Mary's its final scoring chance and missed high at 88:08.

The Mount head home to host Long Island on Sunday. Match time is 1 p.m.
