Box Score EMMITSBURG, Md. – St. Francis (N.Y.) scored in the 26th minute to down Mount St. Mary's 1-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) men's soccer action on Sunday.
Peter Steve (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) made two saves for the Mount (4-4-1, 1-1-0 NEC) while Chris Wheeler (Newcastle, Australia/St. Francis Xavier) had a team-high five shots in the loss. Steve had his streak of 296 scoreless minutes stopped in the game.
Robbie Weir scored the lone goal of the afternoon for the Terriers (6-2-1, 1-0-0 NEC) on a free kick from 30-yards out at the 26:43 mark. Tyler Clarhaut turned away eight shots to help St. Francis (N.Y.) to its sixth-straight win.
Mount St. Mary's outshot the Terriers 13-7 in the game and had several chances to score, but could not convert. Kyle Patrick (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) gave the Mount its first scoring chance early in the game on a breakaway, but had his shot stopped by Clarhaut at 2:16. The Mount pelted shots at Clarhaut all afternoon, but each time the netminder hauled in the save. Wheeler nailed a shot at 21:57 off a free kick at 21:57 that Clarhaut turned away. The hardest shot on the afternoon came from Alex Graver (Palmerton, Pa./Palmerton) at 61:16, but Clarhaut was able knocked it up in the air and come down with the stop. Wheeler gave the Mount its final scoring chance, but Clarhaut corralled the shot to preserve the shutout.
The loss ended the Mount's three-game losing streak and also was the squad's first loss at Waldron Family Stadium this season.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action in its first road NEC contest of the year at Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday. Match time is 4 p.m.
