OPENING
TEE: The
Mount St. Mary's women's golf team looks for its Northeast
Conference title at the Northeast Conference Championships at the
Hershey Links in Hershey, Pa. The Mount's best finish in the event
was a fifth-place standing in 1998 and 2006 while Shannon Prettyman
has the best individual standing with a 12th-place finish in
2005.
LAST TIME
OUT: Christina
Hall won individual medalist honors to power the Mount St. Mary's
women's golf team to the Kutztown Spring Invitational title on
Saturday. Hall, who came into the final round two strokes behind
the leader with a first-round score of 88, carded an 85 on Saturday
to win the event by one stroke with a two-day total of 173. It
marks the 13th time in program history a Mount women's golfer has
won an event and the first since Shannon Prettyman won the Seton
Hill Invitational on Oct. 4, 2004. Along with Hall, Christina
Koerper, Megan Corbett and Maddy Martin helped the Mount to the
team title by finishing in the Top-10. Koerper finished fourth with
a two-round score of 178, Corbett placed tied for fifth with a
total of 181 and Martin ended the competition in seventh place with
a score of 184. Ananda Rochita (17th place, 199) also competed in
the event for the Mountaineers.
LAST
TIME AT THE EVENT: Katie
Letsch finished 21st to lead the Mount St. Mary's women's golf team
to an eighth-place finish at the Northeast Conference Championships
on Apr. 27. After posting a season-best in the opening round to
rank seventh, Letsch carded a 91 on the second day and an 86 in the
final round to post a three-round score of 257. Christina Koerper
(28th place, 263), Caitlin Fortner (30th place, 264), Megan Corbett
(40th place, 286) and Emily Morrison (42nd place, 289) also
competed for the Mountaineers.

PRESEASON
POLL: The
Mount St. Mary's women's golf team has been picked to finish sixth
at the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships, according to the
NEC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Defending NEC champion Fairleigh
Dickinson received six first-place votes to be tabbed as the
preseason favorite. Sacred Heart garnered the four other
first-place nods to place second in the poll, and Long Island and
Saint Francis (Pa.) finished 3-4 while Central Connecticut State,
the Mount, Monmouth, Robert Morris, Wagner and St. Francis (N.Y.)
rounded out the poll
MAKING
STRIDES: The
Mount established its two-best single round totals and a new
two-round record at the ECAC Championships on Oct. 4-5. The squad
shot a 333 on the first round to break the single-round mark and
then broke that mark in the second round by two strokes with a
331. The two round score of
664 shattered the program record for two rounds by 20 strokes. In
addition, freshman Christina Hall notched the second-best single
round in the first round with a 78 and then established a new
two-round mark with a 160. Junior Christina Koerper posted a 79 in
the second-round, the fifth time a player shot under 80 in program
history, and finished one stroke behind Hall for a 161 for the
second-best two-round mark in program history. Freshman Maddy
Martin posted the fifth-best standard for two rounds with a 165 at
the ECAC Championships. The Mountaineers posted some of its best
scores at the Bucknell Invitational on Sept. 7. The two-round score
of 690 was the fourth-best two-round total in program history
The
squad's 339 in the final round was the seventh-best single round in
program history. In addition, sophomore Megan Corbett carded a 167
in the event, the eighth-best two-round score in team history. The
Mount has posted a two-round score under 700 five times in program
history, including twice this season.
THE
70'S SHOW: The
Mount has had a player shoot a round under 80 seven times in
program history and three of those players are on the 2007-08
squad. Senior Katie Letsch shot a 77 in the final round of the
Monmouth Invitational on Apr. 2, 2007 and a 78 in the second round
of the Mount St. Mary's Spring Invitational on Apr. 6,2009.
Freshman Christina Hall broke Letsch's old standard with a 76 at
the Mount St. Mary's Fall Invitational on Oct. 28 and registered
the fourth-best mark in program history at the ECAC Championships
with a 78 in the first round at the ECAC Championships on Oct. 4
while junior Christina Koerper posted a 79 in the final round of
the ECAC Championships on Oct. 5 for the seventh-best mark in team
history. Sophomore Megan Corbett tied the second-best mark of 77 in
the first round of the home invitational. Prior to this group,
Shannon Prettyman held the old standard after shooting 78 twice in
her career.
NEW
TO THE MOUNTAIN: Freshmen
Maddy Martin and Christina Wall joined the team in 2008-09, joining
sophomore Megan Corbett, junior Christina Koerper, senior Katie
Letsch and sophomore Ananda Rochita.
TOP
OF THEIR GAME: Senior
Katie Letsch leads the team with an 3727 strokes per round average
in 42 rounds of competition. Junior
Christina Koerper is right behind her with an 3123 strokes per
round average in 36 rounds of play.
DOUBLE
DUTY FOR KELLER: Colyn
Keller assumed the head coaching duties of the women's golf team
after the Bucknell Invitational on Sept. 7. Keller enters his first
season as the head coach of the men's and women's golf team. Keller
is no stranger to the program after serving as an assistant to the
team for the last three years. Keller owns Quail Valley Golf Course
in Littlestown, Pa., the home the men's and women's golf
programs.
