Women's Soccer Loses to Sacred Heart, 5-1, in Final Game of the Season

Fairfield, Conn. (November 1, 2009)-

The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team lost at Sacred Heart, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the season. Senior Regina Potter scored her first collegiate goal in the loss.

The Mount finishes the season with a 6-11-2 overall record and a 4-5-1 mark in the Northeast Conference. The six wins are a four-win improvement over last season.

The Pioneers controlled play in the first half, taking the lead in the seventh minute of the game. Lindsay Elliott converted a cross from Samantha Kee to give Sacred Heart the early 1-0 advantage. Leigh Dogmantis added an assist on the play as well. The Pioneers outshot the Mount, 15-to-4, in the opening half, however, just two of those shots were on goal.

The Mount evened the score early in the second half on Potter's first collegiate goal. The senior converted a loose ball in the box after a throw-in. The Pioneers, however, answered quickly when Elliott buried a shot from 20 yards out just over two minutes later to give Sacred Heart a 2-1 advantage

Sacred Heart (8-9-1, 4-5-1 NEC) sealed the win with a three-goal outburst in a four-minute span later in the second half. Mary Dick, Elliiott and Kee each scored in the stretch to give Sacred Heart the 5-to-1 victory.
