Emmitsburg, Md. (October 25, 2009)--Central
Connecticut State scored three first half goals en route to a 3-1
victory over Mount St. Mary's on Sunday afternoon. Mount sophomore
Sadie Winship (York, Pa./Eastern York) scored her fifth goal of the
game in the loss.
The highlight of the
day for the Mount came in the 89th minute of play. Winship,
playing in goal due to an injury to staring goalkeeper Alicia
Miller (Lititz, Pa./Warwick), buried a free kick from 40 yards out
for her fifth goal of the season.
Central Connecticut
State (9-6-2, 7-0-1 NEC) scored three times in the first half to
take control of the game. Ciara Crinion started the scoring in the
19th minute with her first goal of the year. Brittany Emin took a
long feed from Leah Blayney down the left wing and sent a cross to
the middle. Brittany Jackson touched the ball on the cross, which
went to a wide open Crinion, who buried the shot from right in
front of the goal.
Jackson scored in the
33rd minute when she took a pass to the middle from Beth Lloyd and
beat Mount keeper Miller. Blayney added an assist on the play.
Blayney rounded out the scoring just under two minutes later when
she converted a Clio Tregear assist for a 3-0 advantage.
CCSU held a 22-to-13
advantage in shots in the game, including a 13-to-7 mark in the
first half. Miller made six saves in 54:22 of action for the Mount
while Winship added two saves to her goal in the game. Caity Casey
made three saves in 76:33 to post the win for Central Connecticut
State while Jamie Trayer added one save in the final 13:27.
The Mount (5-10-2,
3-4-1 NEC) returns to action on Friday, October 30, with a 3:00
p.m. game at Fairleigh Dickinson.
