MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Jeff Kingsbury (North Beach, Md./Northern)
placed sixth after the first round of the Holiday Inn Pittsburgh
Airport Colonial Golf Classic on Monday. Ray Hyre (Bowie,
Md./Bowie) sits in 10th place to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's
golf team to a seventh-place standing.
Playing as an individual, Kingsbury posted a 37 on the first
nine holes and a 39 on the back nine to finish the first round with
a 76 in sixth place, six strokes behind the current leader. Hyre
sits in 10th place after registering a 38 on the front nine and a
43 on the back nine for a 78, eight strokes behind the current
leader.
Sage Smith (Denver, Colo./Brophy) (23rd place, 81), Brad Gerick
(Pylesville, Md./North Harford) (35th place, 84), Dan Michalek
(Mount Airy, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (35th place, 84) and Brandon
Powers (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) (42nd place, 87) also competed for
the Mount's team score. Along with Kingsbury, Justin Nogay (Silver
Spring, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (51st place, 93) participated as an
individual in the event.
Laval leads the two-day competition with a score of 297, 12
strokes ahead of Toronto while Robert Morris (311), Duquesne (320)
and Saint Francis (Pa.) (325) rounded out the top-5 teams. The
Mount sits in seventh place after carding a 329 in the first round.
The invitational is being played at the Montour Heights Country
Club, which was voted as one of the 50 toughest courses in the
United States by Golf Digest in 2007.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Tuesday in the final round
of the Holiday Inn Pittsburgh Airport Colonial Golf Classic.
