HARRISONBURG,
Va. James Madison defeated Mount St. Mary's 3-1 in men's
soccer action at the JMU/Comfort Inn Harrisonburg Invitational on
Friday.
Chris
Wheeler (Newcastle, Australia/St. Francis Xavier) scored his first
collegiate goal early in the second half for the Mount (1-1) off
Kyle Patrick's (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) second assist of the season.
Chris Davis (Townsville, Australia/Kirwan State) made seven saves
in the loss.
Nick
Zimmerman scored twice for the Dukes (1-2) and Andrew Harvey dished
out two assists. Ken Mahahan turned away three shots in the winning
effort.
In the
first meeting between the two program's since 2002, James Madison
jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first half and never looked
back to earn its 11th win against the Mountaineers in 12
tries.

Sapong handed the Dukes the early advantage when he found the twine
off helpers from Harvey and Kule Morsink at the 25:11 mark. Harvey
then set up Zimmerman at 33:17 to hand James Madison a two-goal
edge going into the intermission.
Mount St.
Mary's got on the board six minutes into the final stanza a pair of
newcomers hooked up after Patrick feed Wheeler at 51:14 to cut the
deficit to 2-1.
Zimmerman
then sealed the victory with an unassisted tally at
63:28.
The
Mountaineers had a chance to tie the game at 2 when senior captain
Vinnie Berry (Helensburgh, Scotland/St. Patrick's) had his shot
saved by Mahanan in the 55th minute. Mahahan also stopped another
Berry scoring threat in the 73rd minute.
Mount St.
Mary's returns to action on Sunday against High Point at the
JMU/Comfort Inn Harrisonburg Invitational. Game time is 12
p.m.
