BRITAIN, Conn . Central Connecticut State scored three
unanswered goals to down Mount St. Mary's 3-1 in Northeast
Conference (NEC) men's soccer action on Friday.
Eric
Detzel (York, Pa./Central York) notched his seventh goal of the
season to pace the Mount (9-8-0, 5-3-0 NEC) while Chris Davis
(Townsville, Australia/Kirwan State) made seven saves in the
loss.
Hadji
Diop and Eddie Floyd each found the twine for the Blue Devils
(9-6-2, 3-4-1 NEC) and Paul Armstrong made two saves in the winning
effort.
Despite
Mount St. Mary's grabbing a 1-0 advantage, Central Connecticut
State recorded three-straight goals to go on for its sixth-straight
win against the Mount.
After
Detzel handed the Mountaineers a 1-0 edge when the sophomore
knocked in a deflection off a Blue Devil defender at 37:53, Central
Connecticut State started a three-tally run on an own goal at
40:49. Connor Smith then served the ball to Diop, who found the
twine at 41:41 to hand the Blue Devils a 2-1 lead going into
halftime.
Floyd
increased the advantage to two goals off a helper by Robert Cavener
at 58:13.
Despite
the loss, Mount St. Mary's remains in contention for its first NEC
Tournament berth since 1999. The Mount closes out the regular
season at Quinnipiac on Sunday. Game time is 1 p.m.
