Two Second-Half Goals Lifts Elon Past Men's Soccer, 2-0

ELON, N.C. - Elon scored two second half goals to lead Elon past Mount St. Mary's 2-0 in non-conference men's soccer action on Sunday.

Freshman Chris Davis (Kirwan, Australia/Kirwan State) paced the Mount (1-2-1) with a career-high nine saves while Eric Detzel (York, Pa./York Catholic) and Alex Kem (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) each registered a shot on goal in the loss.

After a scoreless first half, Elon scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half and went on for a 2-0 win. Aaron Parker set up Justin Wyatt's third goal of the year 1:15 into the second half before Brett Paschall found the twine for the second time this season off helpers from Parker and Erfan Imeni at the 53:58 mark.

The Mount had several scoring chances in the match, but could not convert. Detzel gave the Mountaineers their first scoring chance, but his shot was saved by Clint Irwan in the seventh minute. Ty Fenstermacher (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) had a shot go high in the 67th minute before Vinnie Berry (Helensburgh, Scotland/St. Patrick's) shot was blocked by the defense in the 70th minute. Kem's scoring threat was turned away by Irwin for his second stop on the afternoon and then Tim Lees (Cheshire, England/Byrchall) gave Mount St. MAry's its final opportunity, but missed high with 59 ticks remaining.

The Mount has not scored a goal in the first half in its first four games, but the opponent has only one first half score this season.
