ELON, N.C. - Elon scored two second half goals to lead Elon past
Mount St. Mary's 2-0 in non-conference men's soccer action on
Sunday.
Freshman Chris Davis (Kirwan, Australia/Kirwan State) paced the
Mount (1-2-1) with a career-high nine saves while Eric Detzel
(York, Pa./York Catholic) and Alex Kem (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder)
each registered a shot on goal in the loss.
After a scoreless first half, Elon scored two goals in the first
10 minutes of the second half and went on for a 2-0 win. Aaron
Parker set up Justin Wyatt's third goal of the year 1:15 into the
second half before Brett Paschall found the twine for the second
time this season off helpers from Parker and Erfan Imeni at the
53:58 mark.
The Mount had several scoring chances in the match, but could
not convert. Detzel gave the Mountaineers their first scoring
chance, but his shot was saved by Clint Irwan in the seventh
minute. Ty Fenstermacher (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) had a shot go high
in the 67th minute before Vinnie Berry (Helensburgh, Scotland/St.
Patrick's) shot was blocked by the defense in the 70th minute.
Kem's scoring threat was turned away by Irwin for his second stop
on the afternoon and then Tim Lees (Cheshire, England/Byrchall)
gave Mount St. MAry's its final opportunity, but missed high with
59 ticks remaining.
The Mount has not scored a goal in the first half in its first
four games, but the opponent has only one first half score this
season.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Wednesday at Iona. Game
time is 3 p.m.
