The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team defeated Monmouth, 6-0,
to advance to the Northeast Conference semifinals for the fourth
straight season. The Mount will face #2 seed Long Island today in
the semifinal round. Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart meet in the other
semifinal with the championship match also to be played today.
The Mount swept the doubles matches to capture the doubles
point. Katie Muething and Chelsea Johnson were 8-2 winners at No.
1 doubles, Jen Iosue and Whitney Edmonds won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles,
and Kaitlin Hallahan and Emily Grugan won 8-3 at the No. 3
spot.
In singles action, The Mount won five matches in straight sets
to secure the win. Muething was an easy 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 2
singles over Ashleigh Johnson. Johnson won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3
singles, Iosue cruised 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles, Edmonds won 6-1,
6-1 at No. 5 singles and Ashley Wentzel won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6
singles for the Mount.
