Emmitsburg, Md. (September 21, 2006)--Jenn
Baker (Frederick, Md./St. John's at Prospect Hall) scored twice in
the first half to lead the Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team to
a 4-0 win over UMBC at the Mount St. Mary's Soccer Field on campus
on Thursday afternoon. It was the Mount's first-ever win over UMBC
in 12 all-time meetings.
Baker gave the Mount an early 1-0 lead when she scored on a
header off a Colleen Regan (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding)
corner kick. Meghan Haspert (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) made it 2-0
when she scored from 20 yards out on a rebound of a Karyn Farrar
(Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) shot. Farrar made a brilliant
individual play on the goal, stealing the ball and breaking in on
the goalkeeper one-on-one. Her shot was saved by UMBC goalkeeper
Carly Agro, but the rebound went straight to Haspert who buried her
team-leading third goal of the season.
Baker sent the Mount to halftime with a 3-0 advantage when she
converted a loose ball in front of the goal. UMBC had two scoring
chances late in the first half, but Mount St. Mary's goalkeeper
Anna Lebo (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) made sensational saves
on both. The Mount held an 11-4 advantage in shots in the first
half.
In the second half, the Mount completed the scoring on a Kelli
Devine (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) goal. Emily Menotti (Dover,
Pa./Dover) started the play with a long ball to the corner to
Candace Masson (Harrisburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff), who crossed the ball
to the middle where Devine redirected it into the net. The assist
was Menotti's first collegiate point.
Lebo (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) made four saves to earn
her second shutout of the season and fifth of her career. Agro
allowed three goals and made one save in 28:47 of action while
Catie Bukowski had three saves and allowed one goal in 61:13 of
time. The Mount outshot UMBC 18-9 in the game.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action with a 7:00 p.m. game at Navy
