Emmitsburg, Md. (October 17, 2006)--The Mount
St. Mary's women's soccer team lost to Lafayette, 1-0, in overtime
in a game played in a steady rain on Tuesday afternoon.
Lafayette's Trista Burke's header off a Lauren Hinkel corner kick
1:53 into the overtime period provided the winning score.
Play picked up in the second half after a lackluster first 45
minutes. Neither team had a shot in the first half and Lafayette
had the only corner kick.
The Leopards (4-9-1) had a couple of good scoring chances in the
second half, but Mount St. Mary's goalkeeper Anna Lebo
(Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) came up key saves to keep the game
tied. Lebo's best chance came after Lafayette's Brittany Downham
flicked a header past Lebo from 10 yards out, but Lebo scrambled to
make a diving stop before the ball crossed the line.
The Mount (4-12-0) was outshot 10-3 in the game while the
Leopards held a 2-0 edge in corner kicks. Lebo made five saves in
the loss for the Mount while Mary Kate Erdman made three saves to
earn the shutout win.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Sunday, October 22, when
Monmouth visits for a 12:00 p.m. game. The Mount's five seniors
will be honored in a brief ceremony prior to the game.
