Emmitsburg, Md. (October 15, 2006)--Freshman
Emily Menotti scored twice to lead Mount St. Mary's past visiting
Robert Morris, 3-0, in the first ever game at the Mount's brand new
Waldron Family Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Mount improves to
4-11-0 on the season and 2-4-0 in the Northeast Conference with the
victory.
Sophomore Meghan Haspert earned a piece of Mount St. Mary's
history, scoring the first-ever goal at Waldron Family Stadium.
Haspert, who leads the team with five goals, took a cross from
Karyn Farrar, won the battle for the ball with the Robert Morris
goalkeeper and buried the shot. The play started with Kelli Devine
tapping the ball back to Farrar, who served the ball to
Haspert.
Menotti scored twice in the second half to seal the win for the
Mount. Her first goal came on a header off a Jenn Baker cross with
28:12 remaining in the game. Just under eight minutes later, Baker
passed the ball to the middle to Menotti, who beat Colonial
goalkeeper Jessica Onufer to the right.
Mount St. Mary's goalkeeper Anna Lebo made six saves to earn her
third shutout of the season. Lebo is second all-time at the Mount
with six career shutouts.
Robert Morris outshot the Mount, 14-13, in the game, including
10-4 in the second half. Onufer made six saves in the loss for the
Colonials.
The Mount returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 17, when Lafayette
vists for a 3:30 p.m. game.
