Rob Ryersonenters his 13th season in 2012. In the last four seasons, Ryersonhas guided the Mount to a 22-20-4 record in the NortheastConference. The Mount advanced to the NEC Championship Game for thethird time in program history and participated in its fifth NECpostseason appearance to earn Ryerson NEC Coach of the Year honorsin 2008.
While leadingthe Mount, Ryerson has coached two NEC Rookie of the Years, eightAll-NEC first-team selections, 11 All-NEC second-team selections,three NEC Players of the Week and 12 NEC Rookies of the Week inhis 12 seasons. In addition, two of his players played in theUnited Soccer League Second Division.
Ryerson beganhis coaching career as an assistant at UMBC in 1991 and thenreturned to UNLV for two years as an assistant in 1993 and 1994. Hethen came back to his native Maryland to spend 1995 and 1996 asHead Coach at DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, beforestarting his Professional Indoor coaching career as an AssistantCoach with the Washington Warthogs of the Continental Indoor SoccerLeague in 1996. He then spent 1997 and 1998 as Head Coach of theBaton Rouge Bombers of the Eastern Indoor Professional SoccerLeague, where he earned 1997 EISL Coach of the Yearhonors.
Ryerson’s successful career in soccerbegan while playing collegiately at the University of Nevada, LasVegas. He was a twotime All-America selection at Nevada-Las Vegas in 1984 and 1985. Hestill holds the UNLV career scoring record with 67 goals and 25assists, and was named to the school's Hall of Fame in 1998 alongwith having his No. 10 jersey retired following his senioryear.
Ryersonplayed professionally outdoors for the Maryland Bays from 1988-91and the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 1992. He was a key member of theNational Championship team winning the American Professional SoccerLeague title in 1990. Professionally indoors, he played for the Baltimore Blast andWashington Warthogs as well as squads in San Diego and Fort Wayne,Ind., prior to becoming an assistant coach for the Warthogs in1996.
Over fiveyears of play with the U.S. National Team, his most memorablehighlight was scoring the game-winning goal in a 1-0 friendlycontest against Costa Rica in San Antonio, Texas, (6-14-88).Ryerson participated in the Heroes Cup in July 2003, a game thatfeatured former national team players from the United Statesplaying against a squad of former national team players fromMexico.
Ryerson hasobtained the highest level of coaching licenses offered here in theUnited States. Heobtained his USSF National “A” License in 1997, hisUSSF National “Youth” License in 2000 and his NSCAANational “Premier” License in 2001. His involvement with youthsoccer is extensive as he hosts one of the top residential soccercamps in the region. He also is an instructor for the Maryland State Youth SoccerAssociation, conducting coaching courses to youth soccer coacheswithin the State of Maryland.
Ryersonearned his MBA from Mount St. Mary's in 2004.
Ryerson, whohas three children (Robert [9], Lucas [6] and Brianna[5), was also inducted into the “Maryland Soccer Hall ofFame” in 2006. The family resides in Ellicott City,Md.
