Phil Hammond, who took over the Mount St. Mary’s men's and women's tennis programs in 2004, has built the two programs into solid contenders in the Northeast Conference during his time in Emmitsburg. The 2014-15 season will mark Hammond’s 11th year at the Mount.
On the women's side, he has posted a 126-96 record in dual matches in his career, leading the Mount to winning seasons in seven of his first 10 years. He has seen the Mount advance to the NEC semifinals four times.
On the men's side, he helped guide the Mount to its first-ever NEC championship match appearance in his first season. His men’s teams are 98-115 in his 10 seasons at the helm. In 2010, he led the Mount to a nine-win improvement over the previous season and the No. 5 seed in the NEC Tournament. The 2012-13 squad posted 15 victories, which are the most since an 18-win campaign in 1991-92.
Hammond has had 23 players earn All-Conference honors at the Mount. In 2013, women’s player Kelly Conroy earned Capital One Academic All-America Third Team recognition.
