Barrett Elkins was hired as the Mount St. Mary's head men's and women's tennis coach in August of 2018.

Elkins came to the Mount after spending last season as the head coach at Metropolitan State University of Denver, where he led both the men's and women's programs to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Regular Season and Tournament Championships. Both the men's and women's squads went unscathed in the conference tournament, winning every match played during their title runs. Following the historic season for both MSU teams, Elkins was honored with RMAC Men's and Women's Coach of the Year honors.

During his time at MSU, Elkins mentored and developed some of the best student-athletes in program history. He coached the highest-ranked male and female in school history, as Josh Graetz reached No. 5 in the NCAA Division II rankings, and Tabitha Porta climbed as high as No. 6 on the women's side. Graetz also became the program's first-ever All-American, while Porter was the first individual to win the ITA Regional Tournament in school history. Elkins also helped produce the men's conference player of the year (Graetz) and the women's conference freshman and player of the year (Alex Pessoa) in 2017-18.

Prior to taking over the helm at MSU, Elkins was the head men's tennis coach at Young Harris College from 2013-17. He led the program to the NCAA Tournament in its first year eligible, and set a new program record for wins in three consecutive seasons while leading the Mountain Lions to national rankings all three years. Elkins trained three separate regionally and nationally ranked doubles teams, and coached three individuals to tournament championships at Young Harris.

Elkins got into the collegiate coaching realm in 2010 as the head men's and women's coach at Ave Maria University in Florida, where he helped build the programs from scratch. Elkins, who spent three seasons at Ave Maria, saw his teams increase their win totals each year he was at the helm.

As a player, Elkins competed at the state, sectional and national level. He was the Georgia State Runner-Up in 2000, before claiming the Championship title the following year. Elkins also won the Georgia State Closed Junior Championships and was crowned the USTA Georgia Doubles Champion in 2009.

Elkins graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy and sacred theology from Southern Catholic College in Dawsonville, Georgia.
