Head coach Scott Thomson completed his 23rd season at the helm of the Mount baseball program in 2019 and owns 373 career wins at the school.

During his time at the Mount, Thomson has had 44 players earn All-Northeast Conference honors, including Player of the Year (Shane Eyler, 2009 and Patrick Causa, 2019), Pitcher of the Year (Dustin Pease, 2006) and Rookie of the Year (Pease, 2004 and Josh Vittek, 2005).  He has had 20 players go on to play professional baseball, including five who were drafted.

During the 2018 campaign, Thomson guided the Mountaineers back to the Northeast Conference Tournament for the first time in 10 seasons, as the team collected its most wins since 2009 with 21 victories on the year. The quick turnaround from an eight-win season the year prior landed the Mountaineers in the playoffs as the No. 4 seed. Thomson helped mentor and develop four All-NEC selections in starting pitcher Trey McGough and infielders Patrick Causa, Alex Kriss, and Vaughn Parker II.

In 2008, after seeing his team open the season with 15 straight losses, Thomson was able to maneuver the Mount into the fourth and final spot in the Northeast Conference Tournament.  There, the Mount lost its first game against Monmouth, but stormed back, winning four straight games out of the loser's bracket to claim the program's first-ever NEC title.  After eliminating Wagner and Central Connecticut State, the Mount was able to finish the job by knocking off Monmouth twice, including a 14-2 victory in the championship game.

The previous season, Thomson led the Mount to the best season in school history, to earn NEC Coach of the Year honors. He guided the Mount to a school-record 35 wins in 2007 to earn a share of the Northeast Conference regular season title, the first NEC title for the Mount since joining the league in 1990. In addition, the Mount posted a 21-7 record in league play, setting a school record for NEC wins.

Thomson, a fixture in Central Maryland's baseball community for over a decade, began his college head coaching career at the Mount in 1998.

Following a successful career at Old Dominion, Thomson played in 1991 and 1992 for Erie of the New York-Penn League. In 1992, he began his college coaching career as assistant at Western Maryland, where he coached six seasons while taking classes.

At Old Dominion, Thomson was a two-time All-Sun Belt Conference pick after making the league's all-rookie team in 1988. In his junior year, he was voted preseason All-American and finished as the NCAA's triples leader for the 23rd-ranked Monarchs. As a senior he was named Virginia College Player of the Year. Thomson finished four years at ODU, pursuing a pro career while resolving to complete his degree. He completed his degree from Western Maryland in May 1998, earning a Bachelor of Science diploma in Physical Education.

Prior to ODU, he was Maryland High School Player of the Year as a senior at Westminster High and was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the ninth round of the 1987 draft.
