Emmitsburg, Md. (January 31, 2014) – Four
former Mount St. Mary’s standout student-athletes will take
their place in the Athletics Hall of Fame with a ceremony on
Saturday, Feb. 1, at 11:30 a.m. at the Dillon Fieldhouse in the
ARCC. Sean Elder (C’00, men’s lacrosse), Frank
“Jay” Kalis (C’69, baseball), John Moore
(C’88, men’s basketball) and Heather Wable Dewees
(C’95, women’s basketball) will all be celebrated for
their athletic accomplishments during their time at the Mount.
Elder was a two-time First Team All-MAAC selection as the
goalkeeper for the men’s lacrosse team. Setting school
records for career saves (655), wins (25) and goals against average
(9.73), Elder was among the nation’s elite goalkeepers,
ranking seventh in Division I with a .626 save percentage in 1999.
It was also during his junior season in 1999 that Elder set the
program single-season record with 270 saves.
Finishing with 11 career victories on the mound, Kalis was one
of the premier pitchers for the Mount’s baseball team in the
late 1960’s. A versatile player, Kalis also hit .300 at the
plate as a senior while splitting time pitching and playing first
base.
Moore will go down as one of the top point guards to ever play
at the Mount. He graduated as the school-record holder with 471
career assists, while ranking second in assists per
game (4.4) and three-point field goal percentage (.383).
He led the Mason-Dixon Conference with 204 assists as a junior and
was part of the Mount’s Final Four team as a freshman.
Wable Dewees currently ranks 25th in Mount history with 1,045
career points despite playing just three seasons. Her teams went
72-15 overall, including a 50-2 mark in Northeast Conference
regular season games. Wable Dewees was a three-time NEC
All-Tournament selection and was twice honored as an All-Conference
performer. She averaged 10.7 points as a junior and 13.2 as a
senior in leading the Mount to back-to-back NCAA Tournament
berths.
