McNulty compiled 103 goals (currently 9th all-time at MSM) and
71 assists (9th all-time at MSM) for 174 career points (10th
all-time at MSM) for the Mount's men's lacrosse team from 1987-90.
As a senior, McNulty posted 55 points on 36 goals and 19 assists
while earning team Co-MVP honors. His seven-goal, six-assist effort
for 13 points in a win over St. Mary's is tied for the second-best
single-game point total in Mount history. He had a solid junior
season of 25 goals and 19 assists in the Mount's first year at the
NCAA Division I level. He appeared in 42 games in a Mount uniform,
scoring in all but one, including posting nine points (six goals,
three assists) in his first collegiate appearance.
Kitching had an outstanding career for the Mount track and field
teams from 1995-98. A four-time champion in the 800m run at the NEC
Outdoor Track and Field Championships, she also finished in the top
three in the 1,500m all four seasons. Indoors, she earned the Most
Outstanding Performer of the Meet at the 1998 NEC Indoor Track and
Field championships. She is currently the Mount's all-time record
holder in the indoor mile run (:46.99), the indoor 1000m run
(2:50.94), the indoor 800m run (2:10.73), the indoor 500m run
(1:15.25) and the outdoor 800m run (2:06.94). She is one of three
Mount women to have qualified for the NCAA Division I Track and
Field Championships.
Buckles was a pioneer in the sport of women's lacrosse at the
Mount, beginning her career in the first-ever varsity season in
1996. She is still the Mount's all-time leader in career goals
(175) and points (230) and is fourth with 55 career assists. She
helped guide the Mount to back-to-back Metro Atlantic Athletic
Conference titles in 1997 and 1998, earning MAAC Player of the Year
honors in 1997. In 1999, she was named First Team All-Northeast
Conference. She is the first-ever Mount women's lacrosse player to
be inducted into the MSM Sports Hall of Fame.
Walsh played baseball at the Mount from 1955-58 under legendary
basketball coach Jim Phelan. Known as "Chubby" by his fellow
students and coaches, he was a co-captain for the 1958 team,
posting an eight-game hit streak during the Mount's 10-game season.
In addition to his stellar baseball career, Walsh has been a
long-time friend and ambassador for Mount athletics. The Walsh Team
Center at Waldron Family Stadium is named in his honor for his
support.
Woodard was a key member of the Mount's outstanding women's
basketball in the early 1980's. The Mount's all-time leader in
career games played (116), assists (740) and steals (372), the
point guard helped guide the Mount to a 90-28 record during her
four-year career. The 1982 and 1983 teams were ranked in the top 10
in NCAA Division II with the 1982 squad finishing in third place at
the Division II National Tournament.
Established in 1971 and sponsored by the National Alumni
Association, the Mount St. Mary's Sports Hall of Fame acknowledges
past athletes who "have exhibited athletic prowess of an
outstanding nature in an intercollegiate sport." Inductees over the
past years have included former members of the basketball,
football, baseball, cross country, boxing, soccer, track, tennis,
lacrosse, decathlon, field hockey, softball, and golf teams, as
well as coaches and individuals who have contributed to the Mount's
athletic program.
The late Monsignor John L. Sheridan, former president of the
Mount, had the distinction of being the first athlete elected to
membership into the Hall of Fame. A versatile athlete, Monsignor
Sheridan was captain of the Mount basketball team and an
all-Maryland football player. He graduated from the college in 1917
and was ordained to the priesthood in 1921.
