Thanks to the extreme generosity of our alumni and parents, E.T. Straw Family Stadium, home of Mount St. Mary’s University Baseball, has undergone incredible changes over the past three years. Completely donor funded, the transformation of the stadium vaults Straw Stadium into the upper echelon of baseball venues in the Northeast Conference. Here are the significant improvements made to Straw Field over the past three years:
- Synthetic turf on the infield. This allows for the team to practice and play in almost all weather and has increased the demand for rentals for the field.
- Padding on the outfield wall. Greatly enhances the branding of Mount Baseball and gives the university opportunities to recognize corporate sponsors.
- Renovated dugouts. First and third base dugouts have been expanded to 60’ for the first base dugout (now home dugout) and 45’ for the third base dugout. Also, there is new seating in both dugouts and both have been repainted to be in line with the Mount Athletic branding standards.
- Other improvements include: improving the irrigation and drainage issues in the outfield, fixing the scoreboard, improving the sound quality and increasing the streaming capabilities for Mount home games.
We are not finished with the enhancements to Straw Family Stadium. Up next is an Indoor Hitting Facility and team room. At approximately 6,500 square feet, the proposed hitting facility will include:
- A 5.400 square foot synthetic turfed space with three hitting chutes and two pitching chutes with retractable netting to open up the space for defensive drills
- Team meeting space
- Coaching offices
- Restrooms
The Indoor Hitting Facility will not only elevate the Mount Baseball venue to the top in the NEC but it will be one of the best baseball venues in the Mid-Atlantic region.
