Mount St. Mary’s Men’s Water Polo Crumbles in Last Quarter Against Air Force

ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 6, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's men's water polo crumbles under Air Force defense in the final quarter, leading to a 13-17 score. With this loss, the Mountaineers are 1-2 for the season.

In the first quarter, the Mount struck first with Luka Urosevic starting the scoresheet for the Mount with a goal only a minute in. Air Force responded with a goal of their own 30 seconds later, before Will Matthews scored to add his name to the scoresheet. Again, Air Force was able to find the back of the net a minute later, followed shortly by a goal from Giannis Skliras.  This pattern continued once more where Air Force scored, this time followed by a goal from Aleksandar Radosavljevic. Air Force then went on to score to more goals, before Neven Cerkez found the back of the net to end the first quarter in a 5-5 tie.
 
The Mount opened the second quarter with another goal coming from Radosavljevic within the first minute. Yet again the pattern happened two more times where Air Force would score then we would score right after, with goals coming from Skliras and Urosevic. Then Urosevic added another goal to the tally to make it 9-7 going into the break.
 
Going into the second half, Air Force came striking back with momentum, overcoming the Mount while holding them scoreless until the final minute. In this time frame, Air Force went on a 5-0 run before the Mount was able to strike again with a goal coming from Cerkez. Before going into the final quarter, Air Force scored once more making the score 10-12.  Starting the fourth, the pattern of Mount scoring then Air Force back to Mount happened two more times with two goals in this frame coming from Aaron Tarr and one from Nikos Agritelis. Agritelis would be the last Mount goal, before Air Force held them scoreless the rest of the game as they went on a 3-0 run to end the game with a 13-17 score.
 
Urosevic led the Mountaineers on the day with three goals. Skliras, Cerkez, Radosavljevic and Tarr scored two, while Agritelis and Matthews each scored 1.
 
UP NEXT
The Mountaineers will return to action at the Princeton Invitational from September 11-13 where they will play four games over the three-day span.
