EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 5, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's women's rugby now stands at 0-1 during the 15's season, after facing tough defense after a surge in the second half where LIU was able to defend the try zone to prevent Mount from scoring in the final three minutes.
 
After two tries were scored in the first 30 minutes plus one conversion from LIU, the Mount was finally able to score a try when Sydney Sibilia fought through the defensive line to score. Shaniah Mayers then fielded in the conversion on Sibilia's try to bring the score to 7-12 going into half time.
 
To open the second half were three more tries by LIU and one more conversion within the first 10 minutes of play to make the score 7-29. For the rest of the half, the Mount held LIU scoreless as they surged back with tries from Brie Kindig and Neely Denlinger. Mayers was able to complete the conversions after both tries as well. On the defensive side of play, Rachel Camiglio recorded 10 of 69 of the teams' tackles during the game to prevent LIU from reaching the try zone. In between the tries of Kindig and Denlinger, Denlinger was also awarded penalty points after LIU player Savanah Owens received a yellow card for a hard shove to the back against Denlinger, which gave the Mount an additional 7 points. In the final three minutes, the Mount was on the try line fighting LIU defenders to score one more time, before time unfortunately ran out with the Mount losing 28-29.
