ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 4, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's men's water polo fell to a close 15-14 score to Navy in their starting match at the Navy Open. With the loss to Navy, the Mount starts the season off with a 0-1 record.

In the first quarter, the Mount struck first with a goal by William Matthews a little under 2 minutes into the game. Then after Navy struck back to tie things, the Mount went on a 3-0 run with goals scored by Aaron Tarr, Luka Urosevic and Aleksander Radosavljevic. Radosavljevic scored off the first penalty in the game. Then after one more goal from Navy, Matthews once again found the net after receiving a pass from Jack Fox which resulted in the Mount heading into the second up 5-2 against Navy.
 
Navy opened the second quarter with two goals to decrease the deficit Mount had created before Nikos Agritelis put his name on the scorecard to answer, followed by two more goals from Neven Cerkez who scored off a penalty and Tarr within the following two minutes. After yet another goal from Navy, Giannis Skliras found the net from scoring a penalty. Navy challenged back, scoring two more goals, and then a penalty allowed Radosavljevic to score again. Navy closed out the second quarter with one more goal, leading the Mount to head into half time with a score of 10-8.
 
The Mountaineers then opened the third quarter with another goal by Urosevic after another goal from Navy. Radosavljevic then scored again for the Mount, then were held scoreless for the rest of the quarter after Navy came back to tie of 12-12. Going into the fourth, the Mount was held scoreless until there was less than three minutes remaining in which Agritelis scored to retie things after an earlier Navy goal. Navy then went on a 2-0 run before Radosavljevic hit the back of the net again for the Mount right before the game ended with Navy winning 15-14.
 
Radosavljevic led the Mountaineers on the day with four goals. Matthews, Urosevic, Agritelis, and Tarr all scored two goals, while Cerkez and Skliras each scored one. Skliras also recorded a block in the game. Milan Miskolczi  in goal recorded 8 saves during the contest.

 The Mountaineers return to action tomorrow, September 5, for day two of the Navy Open against Austin where they will face off at 3:30 p.m.
