EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 3, 2026) – This Friday (Sept. 4) begins the 2026 cross country season for Mount St. Mary's as they host the annual Mount 5K Duals on the PNC Sports Complex Grounds. The meet will begin at 4 p.m. with the women's event, followed by the men's event. Runners will start and finish in the open field opposite the Waldron Family Stadium.
MOUNT UPDATE: The Mountaineers open the season with 26 student-athletes on their roster – divided into 15 men and 11 women, seven of them being true freshmen. Athletes will run five meets over the course of the season, including the Metro Conference Championships. Afterwards, select athletes will participate in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals.
COMPETING TEAMS: Mount St. Mary's, UMBC, Howard, Towson, Goucher, Washington Adventist.
5K DUALS HISTORY: Friday marks the 20th occasion the Mount has opened the season by hosting the 5K Duals. On the women's side, Navy has won the most titles with six, followed by American with five, Johns Hopkins (2), George Washington (2), UMBC (2), and Maryland, Delaware and Howard winning once. On the men's side, both American and UMBC have won the title six times, George Washington (4), Navy (2), and Johns Hopkins, Maryland, and the Mount once.
